About Me

I'm glad you're interested.

What's up?

My name is John Alcher, a software developer from the Philippines that specializes in web development, particularly with PHP and Laravel. Aside from web technologies, I'm a big advocate of software testing, especially the Test-Driven Development paradigm.

I have an Associate's Degree in Multimedia Technology (ACLC Malolos) which I finished 2013-2015. I'm currently on the last semester of my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (ACLC College of Apalit) major in Software Development. I'll be graduating next summer, May of 2019.

As of now, I'm offering consulting services for PHP and Laravel applications. I've worked with companies which domains range from Physical Fitness to Software Outsourcing. My most recent employment was with Baytech BPO Corporation where I was an IT / Dev Intern. I've worked with their product department and primarily did software testing and quality assurance for one of our client's SaaS offering.

Tech Stack and Philosophy

Though project requirements sometimes demand certain technological decisions to be made, I find that most of the time that my ability to be productive and happy while writing software is greatly influenced with the familiar tech stack that I grew to love. So I take a lean and clean approach with my stack and just pick what works and try to really fight for the decision: Do I really need that?

With that said, here's what I use for 95% of my projects:

  • Ubuntu 18.04
  • PHP 7+
  • Laravel 5+
  • PostgreSQL
  • SQLite (for testing)
  • Redis
  • Vue JS
  • Bootstrap 4
  • Git & Github (VCS and Project Management)
  • PHPStorm

I believe that's a good mix of modern technologies and mature tooling!
